Our struggle is to prevent the gates to Syunik from being opened. This was stated by Narek Karapetyan, head of the “Strong Armenia” party , in an interview with the program “A View from Syunik.”

“Samvel Karapetyan has said several times: when you don’t open the gates, you don’t face even greater problems 20–30 years down the line,” he noted.

He emphasized that Armenia is ready to trade and ready to develop its economy, but is not prepared to unilaterally accept all the conditions and demands being imposed on it.

“The more we accept unilateral demands, the more there will be. We must hold to the current situation, sign a peace treaty, and have a peace that is guaranteed by the countries of the region. The historic moment is right here: we see that Armenia must strengthen itself and have more than one guarantor. They believe that Armenia must concede and submit, and that this will bring ‘peace.’ But by conceding and submitting to this people, peace has never been achieved,” Narek Karapetyan noted.

He also observed that Azerbaijan will use the pretext of constitutional amendments to halt the peace process whenever it sees fit.

Commenting on Nikol Pashinyan’s claim that if his party is not in power, war will break out, Narek Karapetyan said that no such agenda exists.

“That agenda does not actually exist, because Azerbaijan has already gotten what it could not even have dreamed of. The state of Azerbaijan no longer has the tools to start a war against Armenia, nor does it have any demands. Its goal as a state is to populate Armenia with Azerbaijanis,” Karapetyan said.
