American interference in Armenia is obvious — Andrey Lugovoy
Andrey Lugovoy, a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, commented to Alpha News on the news that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Yerevan.
“Russia’s position, as always, is consistent with common sense. And I believe Russia must make the appropriate efforts not just to show, but to take further steps that will probably make ordinary Armenian citizens pay attention to where their country is heading and what it could lead to. Let them take the example of Georgia, which for a long time held an extremely anti-Russian position and has finally understood that it is better to be friends with Russia than to try to turn Georgia into an ‘anti-Russia.’ We already have one ‘anti-Russia’ in the form of Ukraine, we can see what state it is in and what is happening to it,” Lugovoy said.
According to the MP, the United States wants to position itself in opposition to Russia.
“As for Rubio’s visit, it is clearly direct interference: he wants to come and use his status as an American politician to show the people of Armenia that America is right here and is on your side. I just don’t understand why America needs all this. They stick their nose into every hole they can find. What does Armenia have to do with the United States? It’s obvious why they’re getting involved — to exert influence and position themselves against Russia,” Lugovoy concluded.
