Moscow sees a parade of declarations being concluded between Armenia and European Union countries that seek to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, Maria Zakharova, official spokeswoman for Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a briefing.

“Yerevan is conducting systematic work to introduce what are supposedly EU standards, signing various memoranda and certain framework plans with Western capitals. But perhaps that would all be fine, there is just one important nuance. These very same Western capitals have declared a full-scale hybrid war on Russia and are publicly framing it, as they have again coined it over there, inflicting a strategic defeat on our country,” she said.

According to Zakharova, Armenia is engaging with Western countries in precisely those areas where it had traditionally cooperated successfully with Russia.

“They are specifically beginning to engage with EU countries and Western Europe in those spheres where Moscow was the traditional, reliable partner that brought enormous benefits to Armenia itself. That is to say, there is no harm from cooperating with Moscow in these areas, there is only profit and development, yet for some reason they are now beginning to replace us on these tracks,” Zakharova said.
