Armenia needs to quickly choose between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the issue is already coming to a head, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, said at a press conference following the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

“Armenia has already passed a law on joining the European Union, so the issue is already coming to a head,” the head of the Russian foreign ministry said.

He recalled the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the Russian government that “Armenia’s membership will have to be dealt with fairly quickly.”

“Not because we do not respect the choice of the Armenian people. We want to know that choice. Otherwise, it is impossible to implement Armenia’s law on joining the European Union and remain in the Eurasian Economic Union, because the rules under which these two blocs operate are mutually exclusive,” Lavrov stressed.
