Communist Party of the Russian Federation leader Gennady Zyuganov commented to Alpha News on the parliamentary elections held in Armenia.

“I believe what happened was absolutely outrageous. This was not an election, it was a farce. But it may have very serious consequences both for the Armenian people and for all of us. I believe the Americans and Europeans did not meddle there for nothing, they need yet another hotbed of tension. The way Pashinyan conducts himself is not how statesmen conduct themselves. This is a gross violation of everything imaginable. I watched his speeches, where he said that all opposition leaders should be dealt with and thrown in prison. But, excuse me, it is hard to imagine a greater act of folly,” Zyuganov said.

According to the Communist Party of the Russian Federation leader, it is necessary to separate the Armenian people from the political processes and decisions of the current authorities, since Russia and Armenia are bound by centuries of shared history, common memory, and mutual support.

“One must distinguish the brave and hardworking Armenian people, who gave 60 generals and commanders during the Great Patriotic War. Ivan Bagramyan commanded the Oryol face of the famous battle. I joined him in lighting the Eternal Flame at the monument to the hero tank crews. History has bound us for centuries. We have helped and saved each other many times. My father, having lost his leg near Sevastopol, received treatment in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan alike. He was eventually discharged from Ashgabat. He had many kind words for the doctors and for those who were by his side. And yet today these people are setting nations against one another and engaging in pure provocation. So this was not an election. The Armenian people must consolidate to the greatest possible extent and support one another, because what Pashinyan is offering will bring nothing but war, shame, and discord,” Zyuganov concluded.
