Russia outraged by desecration of “Mother Armenia” memorial in Gyumri

The sacrilegious act of desecrating the “Mother Armenia” memorial in Gyumri cannot be regarded as ordinary hooliganism, the Russian Embassy in Armenia said in a statement.

“We received reports of the desecration of the ‘Mother Armenia’ memorial in Gyumri, dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, with profound outrage.

This sacrilegious act cannot be regarded as ordinary ‘hooliganism.’ This is a deliberate attack on our shared historical memory and an attempt to defile the Great Victory.

We note the strong rejection of what occurred on the part of Gyumri’s city authorities and the public. We expect a clear assessment of what happened from Armenia’s official authorities, as well as the adoption of comprehensive measures to hold those responsible accountable and to prevent such provocations in the future,” the embassy’s statement reads.
