We will lose our homeland if the people don’t take the reins of power into their own hands: poll in Gyumri
Possible changes in foreign policy course and the rhetoric of the authorities have also caused serious concern and psychological tension in the Shirak region. Polls conducted among residents of Gyumri show that people are facing deep uncertainty about the country’s future and serious fears regarding security.
Participants in the Alpha News poll sharply criticized the current authorities, noting that the policy of intimidation through the threat of war and unilateral concessions is leading the country toward further losses and the loss of its homeland.
“Nikol keeps scaring us with war. But the war has already arrived. Those who don’t want to fight and defend themselves will simply disappear, just as the Armenian people were destroyed a hundred years ago. If this continues, and the Armenian people don’t take control of the country into their own hands, in 20 years we will gradually lose our lands, just as we did in Nakhichevan, we’ll leave, and they’ll achieve what they want,” another participant in the Alpha News poll noted.
According to Gyumri residents, historical experience shows that illusions of peace have always ended in tragedy.
“I have never trusted, and will never trust, a Turk. What peace can there be talk of? Armenians also used to live in Baku and Sumgait, where are they now?.. Aliyev will not change his demands,” one resident said.
