One Armenian farmer, speaking in an Alpha News poll, noted that the quality of this year’s harvest remains unclear, since a heavy hailstorm hit at the start of the season.

“We don’t know what will happen with the potatoes, the bushes look good, but the real picture isn’t clear yet,” he said.

The farmer noted that they receive no support from the state and are forced to sell their harvest at very low prices.

“Nobody helps us, we transport and sell the goods on our own. There are people who haul 100 or 200 kilograms of produce to sell elsewhere. Those without a car take a taxi or arrange with other drivers. But this year the number of buyers has dropped sharply, and prices have fallen,” the Alpha News source said.

He also noted that transport costs currently exceed the value of the goods themselves.
