Alexander Semchenko, PhD of Political Science, commented to Alpha News on the anti-Russian statements made by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan.

“This has been a traditional statement from Aliyev in recent years. What he said now essentially repeats what he said a year ago. I believe that was during his dialogue with Gordon. This year he simply repeated the same position. Why does he act this way? Because under capitalism, a person orients himself toward wherever his money is. And Aliyev’s money is in Britain. Britain is the main beneficiary of the war taking place on the territory of Ukraine, and the primary interested player in this conflict.

That’s why Aliyev acts as his masters instruct him. In his logic, everything is happening quite consistently and correctly. If I were the one making decisions on Russia’s behalf, I would probably find tools of economic pressure on Azerbaijan, because Azerbaijan depends on Russia in many ways. But as far as I can see, this statement was made a week ago already, and no action has been taken toward Azerbaijan,” Semchenko said.
