Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, called Ukraine’s strike on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea aggressive and stated that Iran is a sovereign state that resolutely defends its rights and possesses the necessary potential to do so.

“The actions are aggressive, the Kyiv regime is attacking various countries. Earlier the Kyiv regime attacked the Federal Republic of Germany, blowing up a critically important energy infrastructure facility, now it has attacked Iran, striking an Iranian vessel,” Peskov told journalists, answering a question about how the Kremlin views relations between Iran and Ukraine.

According to him, Iran is a sovereign state, quite resolute in defending its rights, possessing the corresponding potential in this context. “We’ll see how the situation develops. But the expansion of the geography of this conflict is, of course, something we would not want to see,” he added.

On July 25, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked an Iranian merchant vessel. As a result of the attack, one sailor was killed and several others were wounded.
