A recording alone is not evidence, it must be verified in court: Vardevanyan on Artur Sargsyan’s case

Any evidence is first examined in court, and only after its admissibility and the authenticity of the original source are confirmed can it be recognized as grounds for a lawsuit. This was stated by Aram Vardevanyan, candidate for the post of National Assembly vice-speaker, commenting on a published recording of a conversation with political prisoner Artur Sargsyan.

According to the recording, Sargsyan talks about “spikes” being scattered on the streets of Yerevan that damage car tires.

“There are verdicts that came into legal force under your very rule, according to which a simple conversation between two people, even one of a negative or critical nature, does not constitute a crime,” Vardevanyan noted, addressing Vahagn Alexanyan, National Assembly vice-speaker.
