Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus, called Azerbaijan’s decision to assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the first time in 2028 a “historic moment” at the CIS summit on October 9.
“A new stage in the development of our organization is the decision of the esteemed Ilham Heydarovich (Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan – editor’s note) to assume the chairmanship for the first time in 2028. This is, without a doubt, a historic moment. The president himself said so as well,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
“I hope Armenia will also decide to perform this honorable function in 2029, in line with the rotation order,” Lukashenko added.
