During discussions on establishing the National Assembly’s standing committees, Edgar Ghazaryan, a deputy from the “Strong Armenia” faction, commented on the “Civil Contract” faction’s proposal to create 12 standing committees. He noted that although the National Assembly’s regulations allow for a maximum of 12 standing committees, this doesn’t mean parliament is obligated to go that route.

“If instead of 12 standing committees we created 6, the salary difference alone over five years could save around $500,000. And to put that sum in perspective, that’s roughly 25 Arabian horses, enough to hold a festival with them. Then those who want to take part won’t have to travel to Qatar and suffer in the heat,” Edgar Ghazaryan noted.
