The agreement reached in Mecca between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan shows that countries in the region have become disillusioned with the US and have decided to rely on their own strength on security matters. This was stated by Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, according to TASS.
“There’s no reason to worry that this agreement is directed against Iran. Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia are countries with which we share deep religious, historical, and cultural ties,” he said at a briefing.
According to him, the document is an important signal: countries in the region have concluded that they cannot rely on US promises on security matters and have decided to rely on their own capabilities instead.
As a reminder, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan previously signed a collective defense agreement, under which an attack on one of the countries will be regarded as an attack on all parties to the agreement.
