Turkey closes doors of Armenian schools to citizens of Armenia

Turkish authorities have banned citizens of Armenia from studying at Armenian schools in Istanbul. Inspectors from the Ministry of Education are already checking educational institutions and demanding that administrators refuse to enroll such children, offering transfer to state schools instead.

Previously, foreigners could attend national minority schools as “guest students,” though without the right to receive a diploma.

The new restrictions have caused serious concern among Turkey’s Armenian community and human rights organizations.
