Political rights and the presumption of innocence enshrined in the Constitution are being violated in Armenia, said Lilit Galstyan, a deputy from the “Armenia” faction, in the National Assembly, commenting on the criminal cases brought against opposition figures as well as the violations that have taken place in the course of this process.

The deputy recalled the search of the apartment of Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), and the actions that followed it, which, in her assessment, gave the impression of “vendetta on demand.”

Regarding the authorities’ criticism of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan and the Armenian Apostolic Church, Galstyan noted: “One must not make unfounded statements without recognizing the exceptional status of the Armenian Apostolic Church. By weakening the Church, you are undermining the foundations of statehood.”
