RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a speech in the National Assembly, stated that Armenia will soon submit an application for EU membership.

“Armenia must submit an official application for accession to the European Union in order to hold a referendum. This is a process that requires extensive work. And in the near future, we will begin this process, especially in response to the calls of our colleagues in the EAEU,” he said.

Pashinyan previously called the holding of a referendum “illogical” until Armenia submits an application to join the EU.

In late May, the leaders of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan issued a joint statement calling on Yerevan to hold a referendum on joining the EU or maintaining membership in the EAEU.
