Withdrawal of Russian base would leave Armenia defenseless: Samvel Karapetyan

Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the “Strong Armenia” party, stated outside the Anti-Corruption Court building that the authorities intend to declare Tigranashen illegal property and hand it over to the state, but that the opposition will not allow this. He stressed that serious programs are being developed to turn the district into a tourism center and industrial zone so that residents do not leave their homeland.

Karapetyan noted that the Electric Networks of Armenia will return to its lawful owner and that there are no plans to sell it. According to him, the authorities have already realized they cannot manage the company and are in a state of panic.

The politician also stated that the withdrawal of the Russian military base would leave Armenia defenseless in the region: “If not the Russians, then it will be the Turks.”

He added that the current authorities have neither the will nor the ability to bring back the prisoners, fearing their possible revelations.
