Shoigu says Russian businesses in Armenia are facing a raider-style takeover

Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, said that the treatment of Russian enterprises in Armenia, in which billions of dollars have been invested, resembles a raider-style takeover.

“It resembles a raider-style takeover,” Shoigu said, speaking about the situation surrounding Russian enterprises in Armenia.

According to the Security Council secretary, Moscow is interested in preserving peace and stability in the South Caucasus, developing connectivity with its southern partners, and preventing new threats to Russia. He noted that, in his view, the US and European countries are seeking to weaken the positions of Russia and Iran in the region, establish their own rules there, and gain control over resources and logistics routes.

Shoigu also said that the plans of Western states include reducing Russia’s ties with countries of the Global South and isolating it from global processes.
