At this pace, visa liberalization won’t be long in coming: Maragos

Vasilis Maragos, EU Ambassador to Armenia, said in Vanadzor that a partnership agreement on communications has been signed and that work is underway to implement an action plan on visa liberalization, which they hope will soon lead to the possibility of visa-free travel to the EU.

“It depends on when the action plan is implemented. So it’s entirely in the hands of the Armenian authorities, but I am absolutely confident that, given the progress we’re seeing, it won’t be long in coming, and we are working very actively to bring this plan to life,” he said, noting that Armenia is currently the only country in the world with which a dialogue on visa liberalization is being conducted.

Asked how long it will take for visa liberalization to become a reality, and whether it could happen within a matter of months, Maragos replied: “Months — definitely not, because this takes time, but I think the first stage will be legislative, and then practical, where we’ll see the results of the action plan. So I hope the process won’t drag on. As you know, the government has set a target of 2029, we’ll see whether we can meet that deadline.”
