Prime minister is the head of one of the bodies subordinate to parliament: Orbelyan

The prime minister is merely the head of one of the bodies subordinate to parliament, whose job is to organize the work and periodically report back. This is what Aram Orbelyan, lawyer, said during a discussion on “Domestic political developments in Armenia” at the Alpha Media Centre.

“True, the political landscape is such that, having a political majority, he has certain levers of influence in the opposite direction as well, over parliament, but he himself remains a body subordinate to parliament,” the lawyer said.

According to him, the prime minister, as an official, is not the head of the parliamentary majority but the head of one of the bodies subordinate to parliament.

Orbelyan also touched on the status of Armenia’s armed forces, noting that they too are subordinate to parliament, which, in his view, follows from the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
