Pashinyan’s positive rhetoric is welcome: Danila Gureev

Danila Gureev, a political analyst, commented to Alpha News on the words of Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, about transforming relations with Russia.

“It is rather difficult to interpret Pashinyan’s words about transforming relations between Russia and Armenia from the standpoint of ‘What comes next?’ Because, unfortunately, we have heard ambiguous statements in the past, and we ourselves saw that the relations, the very rhetoric between Russia and Armenia, were not very friendly. But when we looked at the political landscape, we saw that a number of fundamental points still continued to exist: the same military base on Armenian territory, the same cooperation through the CSTO system,” the expert believes.

According to the analyst, the words of Armenia’s prime minister should be taken with cautious optimism in the direction of positive development of the Russian-Armenian partnership.

“It looks like relations are being rebuilt again. But here, too, one needs to understand that in the course of such discussions one sometimes has to look not at words but at political actions. And here everything depends on Pashinyan: what rhetoric he will continue with, and what actions will be taken, either to improve Russian-Armenian relations or, on the contrary, to destabilize them. But in any case, positive rhetoric is, of course, welcome,” Gureev concluded.
