Pashinyan’s goal is to detach Armenia from Russia as reliably as possible: Andrey Perla

Andrey Perla, political scientist, commented to Alpha News on the policy of Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia’s prime minister, toward Russia. According to the expert, the Armenian leadership’s current course is aimed at further distancing Yerevan from Moscow.

“There is nothing new in the fact that the policy of Prime Minister Pashinyan and the Armenian government actually has only one goal right now: to tear Armenia away from Russia as reliably as possible. Pashinyan is doing this not even out of some idealistic considerations. He is not stupid and hardly believes that this will be better for Armenia. Pashinyan is doing this on the orders of his European masters, believing that this will be worse for Russia,” Perla said.

In Perla’s opinion, the ultimate goal of this policy is to change Armenia’s foreign policy and economic course, as well as to revise its relations with Russia.

“Pashinyan’s goal is to shut down the Metsamor nuclear power plant, to implement the notorious Zangezur corridor and the Middle Corridor across the Caspian Sea in order to damage Russian trade with Iran, and, perhaps, to eliminate the Russian military base in Gyumri, which Pashinyan, one must assume, dreams of replacing with a NATO base. It must be understood that only Armenian voters, the citizens of Armenia themselves, can put an end to this insane policy. This policy damages Russia, but the damage is relatively small. As for Armenia, Pashinyan is fully ready to send Armenians into poverty, which will certainly happen with the loss of roughly half of GDP,” Perla concluded.
