It would be wrong to be guided by hopes in legal or political-legal prosecution processes, Hovhannes Khudoyan, lawyer, said at a press conference on the case of Robert Kocharyan, Armenia’s second president.

“If we are talking about a purely legal process, there could have been no charge from the very beginning, and no preventive measure. Purely technically, the continuation of the court process, which will take place approximately before the end of the two months, consists in the body conducting the proceedings trying to present the court with new, convincing arguments for why, in their view, the detention period should be extended. Seeing the quality of the evidence presented the first time, the groundlessness of that case and the absence of any data, I strongly doubt that the investigative body will have anything to present to the court. I don’t think they will keep clinging to the same empty logic during the two-month investigation. New officials may be drawn into this process, who will put their names and signatures to an unlawful package of documents for prosecution,” he said.
