Mass protests continue in Azerbaijan against hijab ban in schools

Mass protests are continuing in Baku and other Azerbaijani cities against new school uniform rules that ban the wearing of hijabs in schools.

At the end of September, Azerbaijan approved new school uniform rules, which include a ban on “elements that do not comply with the principle of secularism.” Inspections soon began in schools, and girls wearing hijabs were barred from classes. Protests broke out in Baku and other cities, with schoolgirls demanding the right to education for all.
