Protesters blocked access to the Louvre in Paris on Monday, Agence France-Presse reports, citing the museum’s management and a trade union.

According to the report, demonstrators supporting the high school students’ protest movement in France gathered outside the museum building on Monday and blocked the entrance to the Louvre.

Large-scale protests against the rising cost of living and higher prices took place across France on October 17. They were accompanied by violent clashes between demonstrators and police, unrest, looting and vandalism. Radicalized young people smashed shop windows, set fire to public transport stops and cars.

To disperse the rioters, police used tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons. According to French authorities, more than 2,000 people were detained during the unrest.
