Political motives behind dismissals: Alen Ghevondyan and Ruben Melikyan sue YSU

Alen Ghevondyan, political scientist, and Ruben Melikyan, human rights defender, have filed lawsuits against Yerevan State University (YSU). According to data from the Datalex judicial information system, the plaintiffs are demanding that their dismissals be recognized as unlawful, that they be reinstated in their positions, and that the university pay compensation for the period of forced absence from work.

Earlier, both experts publicly stated that the termination of their employment contracts was purely political in nature and was linked to their professional and civic stance.

In addition to the basic claims, Ghevondyan is also asking the court to order YSU to pay monetary compensation equal to 12 average monthly salaries in case his actual reinstatement proves impossible.
