Designer Mery Grigoryan’s photoshoot in Selin Magazine – Message about Artsakh
Young designer Mary Grigoryan created a photo series with Irina Danielyan, Yelena Borisenko, Lily Vardan and Mariam Davtyan, which appeared in the internationally renowned Selin magazine.
However, the goal of the team was not only to shine in popular pages with beautiful clothes, but to share the message about the criminal activities of Azerbaijan and, in particular, the blockade of Artsakh.
“Azerbaijan, with full support and backing of Turkey, provokes, targets and perishes Artsakh and its ethnic Armenian population to deprive them of their homeland and their right of self-determination.
Azerbaijan deliberately targetes peaceful Armenian civilians and penetrated the inland of Armenia.
The war in Armenia left a huge red mark in the souls of the people, of the entire Armenian people. Now innocent people are starving and suffering in Artsakh, and the WHOLE WORLD IS SHAMELESSLY SILENT. So where is your humanity? where is your compassion? TALK PEOPLE!
For the first time, I’m allowed to show in the fashion industry not only the beauty of Armenian culture and art, but also to finally shout about the pain, loss and humiliation that the entire Armenian people experience,” the photo caption on Instagram said.
Each of the characters expresses their own emotions. It’s a one-piece dress, which shows the common pain of all Armenians.
“The idea was born after the exhibition in Milan. Then there was a press conference, where we discussed the exhibition with the journalists from different countries. Since I mentioned that the red I used is Vordan Karmir, they started questioning me about that shade, what it symbolizes. I said that one of the symbols is Armenian blood, of course, I also mentioned the 44-day war in 2020. Everyone looked surprised, as if they did not know anything. That once again made me very angry. Having received permission, I did this project. The idea is completely mine, but we have organized everything with the novice but talented designer Mariam Hakobyan,” Mary Grigoryan told News.am STYLE.
“Irina’s corset is completely covered with ‘bloody’ bandages, she is numb from pain, emotionless. Yelena is a more collective character, she portrays loss. Lily and Mariam are standing side by side, but they represent conflicting emotions. Lily represents anger, she wants to get rid of red, and Mariam does the opposite. Each character has their own interpretation of red.”
Many European magazines wanted the photoshoot to appear on their pages, but not all of them wanted to publish the text.
