‘Armenia is taking suicidal steps’: Ukrainian political scientist on contacts between Ukraine and Armenia
Speaking with Alpha News, Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Semchenko commented on the active contacts between Armenia and Ukraine.
According to the expert, they are trying to make Armenia part of an anti-Russian zone.
“I get the impression that they are trying to make Armenia part of an anti-Russian zone, completely ignoring the interests of Armenia itself and the Armenian people. It seems to me that closer relations with Russia should be in the interests of Armenia, since no one else will protect Armenia; there are enemies all around.
It seems that Armenia is simply being detached and inserted into this anti-Russian cage, which leads to an escalation of the situation. Those puppeteers who are helping to intensify contacts between Armenia and Ukraine count on the fact that these offenses that Armenia is now causing to Russia will have consequences when Azerbaijan wants to ‘remove a piece’ of Armenia, thereby arousing a negative reaction of Armenians, not only in Armenia but all over the world,” the political scientist said.
Speaking about why Ukraine needs these contacts with Armenia, the expert said that “for the Zelensky regime, the worse it is for Russia, the better.”
“Formally, Armenia is a member of the CSTO, a member of the customs union, and an economic union, and the leader of all these organizations is Russia. Besides, Armenia is Russia’s ally, and being able to separate Russia from its ally is a significant diplomatic victory for Zelensky. Armenia has no interest in contacts with Ukraine; Armenia here acts as an absolute victim. Armenia is taking steps that can be called suicidal. And the only one who can save it is Russia. Ukraine’s goal is to cool relations between Armenia and Russia,” Semchenko concluded.
