Georgia is a multinational country, and the number of Azerbaijanis in Georgia is growing, which threatens Georgia’s national security, David Rstakyan, head of the Virk party in Akhalkalaki, told Alpha News.

“This is a serious threat, and Georgians are doing everything they can to address their issues with this minority—of course, without harming them. On the other hand, Azerbaijan protects its citizens in Georgia. Armenia does not do the same for its citizens,” David Rstakyan said.

Speaking about the attitude of the Armenian authorities towards the Armenians of Javakhk and the failure to clarify the status of the Armenian language, David Rstakyan noted, “In the 1990s, the attitude of the Armenian authorities towards Javakhk was very positive, but now there is no such attitude. The new authorities lack enthusiasm. Then I realized who was in charge. Years ago, in 1998, I received a call from this person asking why I opposed communications passing through Javakhk from Turkey. I replied, ‘What is unclear?’ and advised them not to call me again. I realized that this person was speaking from the Turkish perspective. Since the 1990s, the current authorities have been defending Turkey’s interests, as though they were Turkey’s lawyers.”
