There will be no peace treaty without resolving transport problems, says political scientist

Political scientist Georgy Bovt commented to Alpha News on the prospect of signing a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku amid new statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

According to the political scientist, if transport problems between Armenia and Azerbaijan are not resolved, there is a risk of a new escalation of the conflict.

“If we talk about the likelihood of an escalation of the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, then for now there is probably no direct threat. However, if transport problems are not resolved, there is a risk of a new escalation of the conflict.

Even in the ceasefire agreement even before the Karabakh war, it was agreed that transport problems should be resolved. Probably there should be a compromise in this area; otherwise, there will be no peace treaty without resolving the transport issue,” Bovt said.

“There is another option: to open the so-called ‘Zangezur corridor’ through Iranian territory if Iran agrees to such an operation,” the expert added.

According to the expert, Russia has little or no role in this process.

“Russia is now tied to Ukraine and has no time for Transcaucasia. In addition, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan is not the favorite hero of Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Bovt concluded.
