France’s Alfortville hosts Armenian Genocide commemorative event

A ceremony commemorating the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held on April 28 in Alfortville, France. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Luc Carvounas, Vice-Chair of the Armenia-France Friendship Group Isabelle Santiago, Senator Akli Mellouli, as well as members of the city council and representatives of the clergy and public structures.

The attendees laid wreaths at the khachkar, honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide, in Place d’Achtarak (Ashtarak Square). Mayor Carvounas, First Secretary of the Armenian Embassy in France Varduhi Sahakyan, as well as representatives of the United Committee of Armenian Organizations of Alfortville, made speeches during the ceremony. The students of Saint Mesrop School sang the national anthems of Armenia and France.
