The terrorist plan allegedly written in the hand of Archbishop Bagrat is in English. It features such geopolitical actors as Russia, Belarus, Iran, China, and Georgia, meaning all of these countries were supposed to have been involved in the terrorist act. This was stated at a press conference on the “18 Righteous” case by attorney Tatev Sogoyan.
“According to the plan, it was necessary to infiltrate an enemy country and take 150,000–250,000 civilians prisoner. We deliberately chose not to translate the document so that the public could see both the difference in handwriting and the absurdity of its contents. And on the basis of political expediency, documents of this kind can be lent significance by high-ranking officials such as the chairman of the Investigative Committee,” the attorney noted.
According to Sogoyan, the criminal case materials contain no criminal procedural analysis of the role the aforementioned document is supposed to play in the alleged charges.
“This document, along with nails and other items of evidence found at the archbishop’s residence, was presented as yet another piece of evidence, without any commentary whatsoever,” the attorney concluded.
