The main choice is up to Armenia’s citizens, but shifting to the EU at the expense of the EAEU is not right, Alexey Shevtsov, Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, told Sputnik.
According to him, switching to alternative energy sources alone could cost Armenia $1 billion a year.
Shevtsov emphasized that Armenia’s withdrawal would have virtually no effect on the other members of the union. The republic accounts for about 1% of the EAEU countries’ current trade turnover, which can easily be offset through other areas of cooperation.
