If the state is ready to act in accordance with the law and compensate for property, it should not call on people to demolish and then send them to court for compensation. The state should explain everything point by point under the law so that people understand. This was said to journalists by one of the tenants of the shops being demolished on Yerevan’s Shinararneri Street.
According to him, people worked for years to create their property, and the state is obliged to respect their rights.
“A person who has worked for 25 years to create this property and already knew he had rights to it should be approached and told what is going on,” he said.
According to him, if this process continues on a wider scale, the problem could affect about 500 families.
