Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II has delivered a message in honor of Victory Day.
“We mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the anniversary of the liberation of Shushi and the establishment of the Artsakh Defense Army with cherished and important memories for our people. Any victory is achieved through faith, tireless struggle and confrontation with adversity. Throughout the centuries-long history, our people have selflessly fought for their independent and dignified life, constantly striving for justice and peace. Realizing this, hundreds of thousands of Armenians fought alongside other nations of the Soviet Union against fascism in order to build a safe and prosperous world. With the same awareness, our nation must defend the right of the Armenians of Artsakh to live independently and safely in their homeland.
And today, as we face the calamities that have struck our nation and homeland—the displacement of Armenians from Artsakh and the challenges confronting Armenia—we must remain steadfast, maintaining our courage of spirit, strength of faith and vision for a bright future, and always remember that we have achieved significant victories only through unity, love and devotion to our homeland.
Therefore, bowing in honor of the eternal memory of our heroes, let us be inspired by their bright example, let us build the future of our life with new achievements and nationwide good deeds by joint efforts and mutual support. On this Victory and Peace Day, we extend our Patriarchal love, blessings, and congratulations to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the participants of the Artsakh war, and all our people throughout the world,” the message of the Catholicos of All Armenians reads.
