Armenia-Russia relations are developing according to negative scenario, political expert says
Russian political scientist Vladimir Kireev commented to Alpha News on the prospects for the development of the Russian-Armenian union.
According to the expert, Armenian-Russian relations are now developing according to a negative scenario.
“The Armenian leadership is committing actions that demonstrate a desire to sever relations with Russia and its integration projects. The Armenian society is being told that relations with Russia are unfavorable, that Russia has not protected Nagorno-Karabakh, and that it is not contributing to the economic development of the country. I believe that these statements are not based on a real analysis of the ongoing processes. Russia is actually the core of real cooperation,” Kireev said.
According to the political scientist, Pashinyan deliberately led the situation to the loss of Nagorno-Karabakh because this interfered with his integration into Western structures.
“The issue of Nagorno-Karabakh from inside Armenia and from outside looks diametrically opposite. In recent years, the Armenian society has been told that Russia does not protect Armenian interests, and this has been presented as an argument for severing relations with Russia. Representatives of all the countries surrounding Armenia are confident that Pashinyan deliberately led the situation to the loss of Nagorno-Karabakh because this interfered with his integration into Western structures. We see an ideological goal of the elites of the United States, which accompanied Pashinyan and his entourage from the moment they became politically active citizens,” the expert noted.
According to Kireev, most likely there will be a final break in Armenian-Russian relations.
“On the part of Russia, for a very long time there was hope that a break with Armenia would not happen. And that after the cooling of relations, there will be some opportunities for normalization and promoting bilateral cooperation. Especially since Russia is interacting more closely with the countries of the region and is generally moving toward the south for its political and economic development.
And Armenia could be part of this ‘logistics network’ with India, Iran, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. But the situation develops in such a way that the relationship becomes irrevocably damaged. The Russian leadership understands all this and begins to assess Armenia as an unfriendly state. Russia accepts that, most likely, there will be a final break in Armenian-Russian relations, including Armenia’s withdrawal from integration structures,” the expert concluded.
