Speaking with Alpha News, Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov commented on Armenia’s possible withdrawal from the CSTO as well as the planned visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to the South Caucasus region.

“Pashinyan does not make any sudden movements because, apparently, he is not fully confident in his personal future as a politician. The situation is such that he is playing between two fires. If the West loses against Russia in Ukraine, then his decision, so to speak, will be reckless, and it will come back to bite him later.

But Pashinyan doesn’t actually choose. He follows the same program for which he was brought to power. In other words, the main task is to isolate Armenia from the commonwealth with Russia. All these events that took place in Armenia with his participation are gradual steps that have led and will lead to the result that the Anglo-Saxons dream of,” the expert said.

According to the political scientist, Armenia’s reorientation became clear even during the visit of US delegations to the country, and the situation was supplemented by proposals from the European Union to include Armenia in the European integration process.

“When the US officials came to Armenia, it showed that Armenia would quit the CSTO and most likely sever all ties with Russia. Besides, Armenia has now received proposals from the European Union through Borrell, their chief diplomat. All these proposals resemble the ones that were made to Ukraine. It promises visa-free travel, that is, free movement across the countries of the European Union. It says that Armenia will be included in the fraternal family of European nations as a candidate, but at the same time it will participate in all missions and operations under the leadership of the EU,” Leonkov said.
