Armenian Apostolic Church urges authorities to cease interference in its affairs

The Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) calls on the constitutional bodies of the country to take measures to immediately prevent the actions of the authorities directed against the church. This appeal was made in a statement issued by participants of the forum Relations Between the State and the Church.

“In the conditions of serious challenges and instability threatening the country, instead of fostering societal unity and strengthening state resilience, the authorities are taking steps that undermine internal unity. The Forum emphasizes that the church has the right to independent governance in accordance with historically established traditions, and the interference of state bodies in its internal affairs is unacceptable. The rhetoric of Armenian authorities—echoing, in the forum’s view, the propaganda of foreign forces—jeopardizes the fundamental principles of independence and self-governance of the church,” the statement reads.
