Armenian athletes win 18 medals at European Sambo Championship

Armenian national teams won 3 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals at the European Sambo Championships held in Novi Sad, Serbia, on May 9–12. In the team competition, Armenian athletes took fourth place with 18 medals.

Mayis Nersesyan (64 kg/combat sambo), Anna Ayvazyan (50 kg/junior), and Alex Khachatryan (53 kg/junior) won the title of European champions. 
Narek Dallakyan (64 kg), Arsen Khanjyan (98 kg), Arman Avanesyan (98 kg), and Arpine Mnatsakanyan (54 kg) became vice champions in adult competitions. Samvel Ghazaryan (79 kg) won silver in the youth championship, while Meline Arakelyan (47 kg), Narek Simonyan (53 kg), and Seyran Sarukhanyan (88 kg) became silver medalists among juniors.
 
Karen Sargsyan (58 kg), Srbuhi Hovakimyan (59 kg), Mher Merjanyan (71 kg), and Avetik Poghosyan (88 kg) claimed bronze. Mher Meloyan (58 kg) and Ani Martirosyan (54 kg) finished third in the 18–20 year old competition, while Levon Vanoyan (79 kg) took third place in the 16–18 year old competition. 
 
About 600 athletes from 29 countries participated in the European Championship.
