Armenian authorities’ actions contradict European law, Washington and Brussels must intervene: Robert Amsterdam

International lawyer Robert Amsterdam has called on Western capitals to intervene in the situation surrounding the Catholicos of All Armenians. On social media, he called what is happening a “disgrace” and stressed that the Armenian authorities are seeking to establish control over the Armenian Apostolic Church, effectively turning it into a branch of the state apparatus.

According to him, this is a gross violation of rights and religious freedoms. Amsterdam noted that the AAC’s 1,700-year history is being ignored, and that what is happening recalls the processes surrounding the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He stressed that neither Washington nor Brussels can remain indifferent.
