Armenian churches of Georgia marked the Eve of Great Lent (Boun Barekendan). The Georgian Diocese and Armenian churches of Javakhk celebrated the holiday with great solemnity, jnews. ge reports.
This year the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrated the feast of Boun Barekendan, which marks the beginning of Lent, on March 2, and closed liturgies were held in the churches. The Great Lent begins on March 3.
The Boun Barekendan holiday was celebrated after the Sunday Divine Liturgy in the Galust Gulbenkyan hall of Hayartun Cultural and Educational Center—on the initiative of the Union of Armenian Women of Georgia “Shushanik” and with the support of the Armenian Diocese. The guests of the event were also treated to Armenian national dishes, including ghapama, Armenian halva, sweet pilaf, pokhindz, and pastries.
