An event commemorating the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in the German town of Leer in Lower Saxony.

The event was attended by the city authorities, including Mayor Claus-Peter Horst.

The attendees laid flowers at the khachkar honoring the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, which was installed in the city’s Inselgarten park.

The khachkar was installed on October 10, 2015, at the initiative of our compatriots Albert and Samvel Tovmasyan, who live in Germany. The Leer City Council decided to include the Armenian khachkar in the list of historical monuments under state care.
