Armenian goods to reach EU market duty-free soon: EU ambassador

The European Union expects that the preferences established for Armenian goods will take effect very soon, said Vasilis Maragos, EU Ambassador.

“Relations between the European Union and Armenia have never been this close, and the European structure is working to make them even more tangible. Following certain very harsh, coercive measures taken by Armenia’s important northern partner against exports to that country, the EU has increased its support for trade,” he said.

This refers to the EU’s new trade preferences, under which several hundred categories of Armenian goods will be able to be exported to the European market duty-free. Brussels offered these preferences to Armenia against the backdrop of Russian restrictions, in order to help exporters find new markets.

The preferential regime is expected to remain in effect for a limited period and will cover a number of categories of Armenian export products. “This week we saw the European Parliament vote in favor of this proposal, and we expect it to be formally finalized very soon,” Maragos said.
