Ara Abrahamyan, President of the Union of Armenians of Russia, has urged the Russian Foreign Ministry to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Armenians aboard flights that made an emergency landing in Baku due to events in Iran.
“Due to airspace restrictions over Iran, Iraq, and Israel, more than 10 planes landed in Baku on the morning of June 13. These included flights from Moscow, Minsk, Kazan, and other cities en route to Dubai. Among the passengers were individuals of Armenian origin and those with Armenian surnames traveling to the UAE.
Given the anti-Armenian policies that official Baku has promoted within Azerbaijani society for decades, as well as documented cases of Armenians being arrested and mistreated in Baku before and after the 44-day war, President of the Union of Armenians of Russia, Ara Abrahamyan, has called on the Russian Foreign Ministry to oversee the situation to prevent any potential illegal actions by Azerbaijani authorities against Russian citizens of Armenian nationality aboard these flights.
According to families of these passengers who applied to the Union, our compatriots traveling to Dubai have since lost communication with their families.
The Union of Armenians of Russia also urges the Armenian Foreign Ministry to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of Armenians who landed in Baku involuntarily,” the statement reads.
