Armenia’s hostility toward Russia borders on suicide, says political scientist
Speaking with Alpha News, Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Semchenko commented on the news that the Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, used the term “invasion” when speaking about the conflict in Ukraine and noted that Yerevan defends the territorial integrity of this country.
According to the expert, the Armenian authorities are now demonstrating hostility toward Russia.
“There is nothing surprising about this statement. The Armenian authorities had previously made hostile statements toward Russia and taken hostile steps. For example, a blatant act was the visit of the wife of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Bucha, after which she made a statement that Russia was involved in those crimes. The Armenian authorities are now demonstrating hostility toward Russia. And this hostility borders on suicide. Russia is the only ally that can guarantee the existence of the Armenian state,” Semchenko noted.
According to the political scientist, it will be impossible to preserve Armenia as a state without Russia.
“I see absolutely no need for the Armenian authorities to control the topic of Ukraine. The only reason is to push Russia further away, to make Russia turn away. But without Russia and a threatening response from Moscow to Baku or Ankara, it will be impossible to preserve Armenia as a state,” Semchenko concluded.
