Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Denis Denisov commented on the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“The fact that the Armenian side did not refuse to participate in such an event is a positive signal, taking into account the trend of recent months. Here, we need to understand the specifics. No matter if the leaders of Armenia like it or not, the Eurasian Economic Union and the key post-Soviet countries are the basic economic partners for Armenia.

According to political will, this cannot be changed with a momentary gesture, no matter how much the representatives of the collective West would like it. Based on this, the meeting itself, and the very participation of Armenia, is already a positive signal,” Denisov said.

According to the political scientist, Russian-Armenian relations are now going through a difficult period.

“The difficult period in relations between Russia and Armenia is associated with a mutual misunderstanding of each other’s positions. In this regard, the more contacts there are at the official, highest level, the fewer problems there will be.

The time has come to honestly and openly discuss problematic issues in bilateral relations, in the context of the security architecture of the South Caucasus and all those processes that are taking place in global politics, and come either to an understanding of each other and new agreements or to an understanding that the parties are moving in completely different directions. Based on this, the foreign policy of both Armenia and Russia will be adjusted,” Denisov concluded.
