Artsakh is Armenian, and this is an immutable truth: Ishkhan Saghatelyan
The opposition is not against normalizing relations with Azerbaijan, but against the path chosen by the current authorities. This was stated in the National Assembly by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, deputy of the “Armenia” faction, commenting on a statement by Ruben Rubinyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, that the threats posed by Azerbaijan and Turkey are being neutralized through the normalization of relations.
“The price of this path is as follows: abandoning the Declaration of Independence, abandoning the demand for recognition of the Armenian Genocide, new concessions to Azerbaijan under the pretext of border delimitation, the possible surrender of Tigranashen, ensuring an unimpeded route between Nakhichevan and Azerbaijan, as well as the official recognition of Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan. This is a path to ruin,” the deputy said.
Regarding accusations from the authorities that the opposition is questioning Armenia’s territorial integrity, Saghatelyan emphasized that the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia is their highest value, and that Artsakh’s Armenian origin is an immutable truth.
“Even if tomorrow you introduce a law in parliament stating that anyone who declares Artsakh to be Armenian will be shot, it doesn’t matter – my friends and I will still go up to this podium and declare that Artsakh is Armenian,” he said.
