“The negotiator must first understand what is happening. Nikol Pashinyan has entered an alternative game. There are two power centers that are trying to get the best result in these negotiations. It’s nonsense when these power centers are playing a zero-sum game.

No matter how much Nikol Pashinyan talks about peace, this does not mean that everything will be as he imagines. He also said that he will bring Artsakh to the negotiating table and begin negotiations from his own point of view. Despite the fact that he has been Prime Minister for five years, it seems to me that he has a poor understanding of what diplomacy and foreign policy mean,” Martirosyan noted.

The expert emphasized that it is necessary to start a counterplay with Aliyev and Erdogan rather than agree with their statements.

“We must understand Aliyev’s and Erdogan’s goals and approaches and examine their psychological profiles. The negotiator must be able to put himself in their shoes, but this does not mean that he must agree with them. It is like playing chess; you need to understand what the other side wants, why it is taking certain steps, and what kind of counterplay needs to be made.
