Armen Ishkhanyan, son of David Ishkhanyan, Speaker of the Artsakh National Assembly who is being held in a Baku prison, delivered a speech at the European Parliament, where a conference titled “Armenian political prisoners in Azerbaijan and the need for EU involvement” is taking place. According to him, with sufficient political will, the EU’s executive body could exert real pressure on Azerbaijan to secure the release of Armenian prisoners.
“As my father said, this trial is directed against the Republic of Armenia. Although almost all peace agreements known in international practice primarily lead to the release of prisoners of war, Azerbaijan consistently avoids doing so. The Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku are being used by Azerbaijan against Armenia today,” he said.
